Tethered iOS 5 Beta 2 Upgrade for Unregistered Devices

A former writer and blog owner Rohan tipped us a method to update to iOS 5 beta 2 for all you users that cant or havent had their device UDIDs registered. The method is very much like a tethered jailbreak, requiring users to repeat the process ever if their device turns off. It works for Windows users only sadly. Another process on the way for Mac usees, but it may be a little lengthier. First you will need iReb, iOS 5 beta 2, and iTunes 10.5 beta 2. The steps are as follows:

Note: This is not our method and we havent tested it ourselves, but we have seen a video of it in action. This is the simplest way we have seen so far to activate a device onto beta 2 of iOS 5 other than having it registered to a developer account.

1. Put iReb compatibility to Windows XP and use service pack 2. After open up iReb and put your device into DFU mode.

2. Open the iTunes 10.5 beta 2 and shift click the Restore button allowing you to select the iOS 5 beta 2 firmware. Let iTunes finish.

3. Once finished boot your device and begin setup. Set the desired options for your language, wireless network, and region. Once you have done so the real action begins.

4. Press the home button quickly 3 times and select/activate VoiceOver. Then triple click the home button again and deactivate the VoiceOver option.

5. Now press the home button once revealing the ability to select emergency call. Select it. When the emergency call screen appears hold down the power button and press cancel. Press the home button again to hopefully have a successfulentry to the iOS 5 beta 2.
